Côte Bonneville

Overview:          Côte Bonneville was founded in 2001 by Hugh and Kathy Shiels to create wines that best express their spectacular site in the Yakima Valley. By combining traditional winemaking techniques with cutting-edge science, Côte Bonneville crafts estate-grown DuBrul Vineyard grapes into world-class wines.

Winemaker:      Daughter Kerry earned her Master’s in Viticulture and Enology from U.C. Davis.  Her work with Côte Bonneville has been complemented by her experiences working vintages at Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Tahbilk in Australia, Folio Winemakers’ Studio, Robert Mondavi Winery and most recently at Tapiz in Argentina.

Vineyards:         In 1992, Kathy and Hugh Shiels planted the steep rocky south-facing slopes of the DuBrul Vineyard, in Washington’s Yakima Valley.  The site consistently produces grapes with unique flavors and structure. The vineyard grows six varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Chardonnay and Riesling.  The vineyard’s low vigor soils combined with a deficit irrigation regimen produce small berries, small clusters and low yields from the vineyard’s vines.

Wines:                 Côte Bonneville Estate Bottled DuBrul Vineyard wines have been well received by publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, SEATTLE Magazine, Seattle Wine Awards, Seattle Business Monthly, Vintrust SOMMelier Selections, Travel & Leisure, and Santé Magazine.
